Whether you suffer from acute or chronic back pain it is no fun at all. Not only can it affect almost every move that you make it can also ruin your working life, your home life and even your sex life. With this condition being so all encompassing it is important that we do what we can to get on top of it before it gets the better of us.

The most common form of treatment is of course the pain relieving medication that doctors seem all too happy to dish out by the thousands. While it may provide a good level of relief and bring your pain back down to something bearable, it is also important to know that long term use has it's own problems such as addiction and the body becoming immune to the medication.

While I know for myself that I could never go without some type of pain relief on a daily basis I do know that there are other ways in which we can limit our suffering and remain relatively healthy. One of those ways is to use a heating pad to soothe the aches and pains. I also know that a soak in a nice hot bath helps with back pain and a heating pad has the same affect, only it is portable!

Let's take a look at three other benefits of using a heat pad.

1. Not dangerous to our health unlike the majority of pain medication. Although you might find a heating pad to be almost a life saver there is no chance of becoming addicted to it and you are not putting substances into your body that do more harm than good.

2. The healing process is sped up by increased blood flow to the muscles, tendons and ligaments and the blood is able to remove harmful toxins from the affected area. If you have ever had a torn or stretched muscle and applied deep, penetrating heat to the area you will know how quickly the muscle relaxed and the area become less painful. This process helps the body to heal naturally so anything you can do to promote it is a good thing.

3. When using the relatively new technology of infrared heating pads the heat can penetrate up to three inches from the skin surface meaning that all the tissue, muscle fibers, tendons and ligaments get the healing effects of the heat. Without this deep penetrating heat, like using a regular wheat or heat pack, the heat is unable to reach the vital areas that need it the most.

While a infrared heating pad may not be the complete answer to your back pain, at least you have the peace of mind of knowing that you aren't filling your body with harmful chemicals and substances. Without a doubt my infrared heating pad has helped me keep my sanity through this tough time and I hope that one will do the same for you.
